The Ethics and Law of Birth and Death in a Jewish State
Renowned Israeli Bioethicist
Professor Noam Zohar
Sunday, April 30, 2017
Light Breakfast 10:00 AM, Lecture 10:30 AM
Professor Noam Zohar will speak about the unique set of legal and ethical rules and practices in Israel governing medical interventions at conception through birth and again as death approaches. Although Israel is formally a secular democracy, Jewish religious tradition deeply informs Israeli law and bioethics dealing with the sanctity of human life. In this presentation, Prof. Zohar will explore these rules and practices in light of their roots in Jewish religious teachings, and will ask to what extent these teachings are consistent with the values and institutions of a liberal, democratic state.
Attendance is free, but please sign up so we can prepare enough food for everyone.
