Using Tech on Shabbat and Holidays

The use of Zoom on Shabbat brings up many questions. While the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards of the Conservative Movement has provided guidance on its usage, there is not unanimity of opinion and each rabbi makes decisions for their own synagogue. In the summer of 2020, Rabbi Werbow held a virtual session with the congregation to discuss a range of issues, pointing out specific areas of nuance and offering insights into our own practices at TI. You can view a recording of the meeting here.

We will continue to explore ways to navigate Jewish practice and accessibility during the pandemic and beyond. Below are materials to study and discuss as part of our evolving understanding of how to interact with technology to build and sustain community.
