The TI Community
At TI, you’ll find a diverse, egalitarian, participatory community with a “come as you are,” heimish (down-to-earth) personality. Drawing from the greater Washington community, our members bring to the congregation a fascinating range of professional skills, intellectual interests and strengths—not the least of which being considerable musical talent.  Together we are deeply committed to building and sustaining the community, and we love to spend time together, especially over food! If you're not already a member, click here to learn how to join!

Commitment to Tikkun Olam/Repairing the World
In the late 1960’s, TI was about to become yet another synagogue to move to the suburbs. That was when a group of young members, committed to staying in a racially integrated DC neighborhood, stepped into leadership of the congregation. That spirit of community engagement has guided us ever since, and a  foundational commitment to social justice enables TI members to improve the lives of others and contribute to our own spiritual growth.  Learn more about Direct Service
