Refugee Shabbat
Saturday, February 11, 2023 • 20 Shevat 5783
All DaySponsored by the Social Action Committee
Shabbat is a day of rest, but Refugee Shabbat is a day when we commit to action — fulfilling the commandment to welcome the stranger. This is HIAS’ fifth annual Refugee Shabbat and the most important one yet, as there are more displaced persons now than ever before in human history . . .
--HIAS President and CEO Mark Hetfield
TI will join with congregations around the world to participate in the 5th Annual Refugee Shabbat (albeit on an alternate date), with a goal of raising awareness about the global displacement crisis and to reaffirm support for refugees and asylum seekers.
There will be two speakers from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) during the Shabbat service: Mark Youmans (Develpoment Manager) and Saber Amini (Community Engagement Specialist). They will briefly speak about IRC's work globally, focus on local work in Suburban Washington and the volunteer opportunities.
Please see the Shabbat morning services page for the Zoom link and other details about services.
