Joining a Zoom Meeting (Windows)

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to install Zoom on your Windows computer before you can join a meeting.

Participants typically join Zoom meetings by doing either of the following:


Join Using the Meeting URL

  1. Click on the meeting link from your email invitation or calendar appointment. (In the example below (via Georgetown), the meeting below is shown in an invitation email.)
    (Note:  If you don’t see a clickable version of the link, just copy and paste the meeting URL into a browser window.)

  2. If the following message is displayed, click Open Zoom Meetings.  
    Click 'Open Zoom Meetings'
  3. In the ‘Launch Application’ window, click Open link.
    Click 'Open link'
  4. In the next window, enter your name as you want it to appear to the meeting participants, and then click Join Meeting.

  5. In the ‘Video Preview’ window, click either Join with Video or Join without Video. (You can also select or deselect the option to show this preview when you join a meeting.)

  6. click on Join with Computer Audio. (This option allows Zoom to use your computer’s audio.) You can also select the option Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting if you always use your computer’s audio.

You’ll be connected to the Zoom meeting. You can mouse over the meeting window to view the Zoom meeting attendee controls.

Join Using the Meeting ID

  1. Record the Meeting ID from your email invitation or calendar appointment. (In the example below, the Meeting ID below is shown in an invitation email.)

  2. If you haven’t already, download and install the Zoom software. 
  3. Open the Zoom software on your computer or mobile device and click Join a Meeting.

  4. In the ‘Join a Meeting’ window, enter your Meeting ID and your name as you want it to appear to meeting participants. You can also select or deselect any of the options for video, audio, and your name.

  5. Click Join with Computer Audio

You’ll be connected to the Zoom meeting. You can mouse over the meeting window to view the Zoom meeting attendee controls.

Joining a Zoom Meeting (Mac)

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to install Zoom on your Apple computer before you can join a meeting.

Participants typically join Zoom meetings by doing either of the following:

Joining a Zoom Meeting Using the Meeting URL

  1. Click on the meeting URL from your email invitation or calendar appointment. (In the example below (via Georgetown), the meeting URL is shown in an invitation email.)
    Note:  If you don’t see a clickable version of the link, just copy and paste the URL into a browser window.

  2. If prompted, enter your name. (Your name will be displayed to all the meeting participants.)
  3. Click the Join With Computer Audio button to connect your computer’s speakers and microphone. (If you want to use your computer’s audio for all subsequent Zoom meetings, select the option Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting.)

    You’ll join the meeting.

Joining a Zoom Meeting Using the Meeting ID

Note: You can find the meeting ID in your invitation email or calendar appointment. (The example below shows the link from an invitation email.)

  1. If you haven’t already, download and install the Zoom software.
  2. Open the Zoom software on your computer or mobile device and click Join.
    Select 'Join' from Zoom main window
  3.  In the “Join a Meeting” window, enter the Meeting ID. You can also change Your Name if you want a different iteration of your name to be displayed during the meeting. Click Join when you’re done.

  4. Click Join With Computer Audio to connect your computer’s speaker and microphone.

    You’ll join the meeting.

Joining a Zoom Meeting (iOS)

NoteYou will need to install Zoom on your iOS device before you can join a Zoom meeting.  

Participants typically join Zoom meetings by either:


Join Using Meeting URL

  1. Tap on the meeting link from your email invitation or calendar appointment (via Georgetown).  
    (Note:  You can also copy and paste the URL [located below Join Zoom Meeting] into any mobile browser window.)

  2. If you see the following message, tap Open.
    Tap 'Open'
  3. Tap OK to allow Zoom to access your device’s camera.
    Tap 'OK'
  4. In the next window, tap Call using Internet Audio.
    Select 'Call using Internet Audio'

You should now be connected to the Zoom meeting. Tap on your screen to display the Zoom attendee meeting controls.

Join Using the Meeting ID

Each meeting has a unique 9-, 10-, or 11-digit identifier called a Meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting

  1. Record your Meeting ID, located in your invitation email or calendar appointment. (In the example below, the Meeting ID is shown in an invitation email.)

  2. Open the Zoom app, and then tap Join
    Tap 'Join'
  3. In the Join a Meeting screen, enter your Meeting ID and then tap Join.

  4. In the next window, tap Call using Internet Audio to use the device’s audio.

You should now be connected to the Zoom meeting. Tap on your screen to display the Zoom attendee meeting controls.

Join a Meeting by Phone

  1. Record one of the meeting call-in phone numbers, as well as the Meeting ID, from the invitation email or calendar appointment. (In the example below, the meeting is shown in an invitation email.)

  2. Using the phone number, call in to the meeting. 
  3. At the prompt, enter the Meeting ID followed by the # sign.

You should now be connected to the Zoom meeting. Tap on your screen to display the Zoom attendee meeting controls.

Joining a Zoom Meeting (Android)

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to install the Zoom app on your Android device before you can join a meeting

Join Using the Meeting URL

(via Georgetown)

  1. Tap on the meeting link from the email or calendar invitation you received. 
    (Note:  You can also copy and paste the URL into a Web browser window.)

  2. In the “Complete action using” pop-up window, tap the Zoom icon so that it’s highlighted, and then tap either Always or Just once.

  3. In the next window, tap Got it to permit Zoom to access your device’s microphone, camera, and storage.

  4. In the next window, tap Deny or Allow to permit or deny audio recording.

    In a few moments you’ll connect to the meeting.

Join Using the Meeting ID

  1. Look for and record the Meeting ID in your email or calendar invitation (email invitation shown in the example below).

  2. Open the Zoom app, and then tap Join a Meeting.

  3. Record the Meeting ID from your invitation email or calendar appointment.
  4. Enter the Meeting ID and then tap Join Meeting.

  5. If you see the following message, tap Allow.
    Tap 'Allow'
    A video preview screen will be displayed.
  6. In the ‘Video Preview’ screen, move the slider if you don’t want a video preview to appear each time you join a Zoom meeting. Tap either Join with Video or Join without Video.

You should now be in the Zoom meeting session.

Calling in by Phone

  1. Look for and record one of the phone numbers listed in either your email or your calendar invitation (email invitation shown in the example below). NoteMake sure to also record the Meeting ID, since you’ll need it during the call.

  2. When you dial the number, you’ll be prompted to enter your Meeting ID. Enter the Meeting ID and then press the # key.
  3. At the next prompt in the phone call, enter the participant ID or just press the key again. You will be in the Zoom meeting.
