SHANA TOVA!

A Note from Rabbi Michael Werbow:

It has been several months since we have been together in person at TI but there has been a great deal of activity in thinking about and planning the High Holidays for this year. A COVID-19 Taskforce has been meeting regularly to discuss what gatherings would be acceptable in the face of the virus. In addition, the Ritual Committee has met and discussed what aspects of the holidays are most important to maintain and to give guidance to help shape the holidays for this year. Assessment of the virus and its impact on our community is constantly evolving so our plans may change but we wanted to share an overview of what we are planning for the High Holidays this year . . .

ORDER PRAYER BOOKS

Due to the virtual nature of the Holidays, we want to be sure that each person is able to follow along with the services. To accomplish this, there are several ways one can view the machzor this year:

  • You can  purchase a machzor for yourself by clicking here.
  • TI can lend you a machzor(im) to use for the holidays. These will be available for pick up at TI on Tuesday, September 15 from 2 - 6 pm.
  • TI can provide you with a link to a digital version of the machzor. You can view this on the same device you use for Zoom or you can view it on one device while using Zoom on a separate device.

You can make your selection here, or through the High Holiday Registration Form. You do not need to fill out both forms.

"VIRTUAL SEAT PACKET"

Typically, on High Holidays, you would find a seat packet on your when you arrived for services. The packet had all kinds of information in it, opportunities to donate and volunteer, and writings for spiritual reflection during the Holiday season. This year, TI members will get a 'virtual seat packet' in the form of a High Holiday bag that can be picked up or delivered to your home. We can't put an apple and honey on line but you can check out parts of the 'virtual seat packet' below!

A Guide for the New Year

This booklet contains writings, reflections and a wealth of
information about Tifereth Israel.

View the Guide here.

Book Of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is used at Yizkor services four times each year: Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret,
Pesach, and Shavuot.

Inspirational Reading Supplement

Readings will be shared throughout Holiday services. Please have the supplement available to follow along.

Kol Nashim

Kol Nashim (KN) is TI's contemporary version of the traditional Sisterhood of yore. KN is the
Voice of Women and through it women spread voices and views in the synagogue community.
KN also provides opportunities where you can meet and get to know other TI women.

Contact Sharon Brown for more information.

Gevarim

Gevarim offers programs and activities that enhance members’ sense of community and engagement in and appreciation for Judaism, as well as provide a variety of educational activities and social and cultural activities of particular interest to men, while also welcoming women to participate.

Contact Andrew Reamer for more information.

Social Action

At TI, tikkun olam means a hands-on approach and TI's Social Action Committee sponsors a wide spectrum of thriving projects. The commitment to tikkun olam is a natural outgrowth of TI’s progressive concern for the both the local community and the broader world around us, and social action projects encompass both direct service and advocacy.
